Lesotho sits wholly inside South Africa: its 909-kilometre border forms one unbroken loop, so every road out leads into the same neighbour. Only three sovereign states on Earth are enclaved like this, and the other two - San Marino and Vatican City - are microstates on the Italian peninsula, which makes mountainous Lesotho by far the largest and the only one you could call a full-sized country. Eswatini is the sharpest trap, a small southern African kingdom nearly engulfed by South Africa - but it also borders Mozambique, breaking the loop. Bhutan is pinned between two giants, China and India, and Andorra likewise touches two countries, France and Spain.
